Schools win in number of new measures for education

While the Government has abandoned its previous higher education policies, university fees are on the rise as are loan repayments.


This year’s Federal Budget delivered a number of education measures:

  • Student fees set to increase 7.5% by 2021
  • Loan repayment threshold will drop from $55,000 to $42,000; repayment rate up 1%, increasing to 10% for salaries $119,882 and above
  • Most Australian permanent residents and New Zealanders will lose subsidy
  • Government will provide an extra $18.6bn in funding to schools over next 10 years.
