Margin lending can be used to accelerate wealth strategies but picking the right provider to team up with can make a difference to enacting your plan
Margin lending provides a path to accelerating your wealth journey, but to enact a good strategy means tailoring the right product to meet your requirements. That makes it important to go with the best provider, and according to Money Magazine, the best is NAB.
NAB has just been awarded Margin Lender of the Year 2025 by Money Magazine, Australia’s longest-running and most-read personal finance magazine.
Key factors in the judging process included breadth of product and investment choice, type of investment available, access to international markets and interest rates payable on loan products.
NAB Head of Product, Greg Bowrey, said: “This is a particularly pleasing award to be presented as margin lending is a key platform many of our clients use to diversify and expand their investment portfolios.
“Over many years we have invested a lot of time and passion to ensure we can deliver to clients the choices they need to enact their investment strategies. Awards are wonderful, as they let us know we are on the right path, but the journey to be the best for our clients is never ending.”
NAB’s lending business offers three investment lending products:
NAB margin loans are designed to be price competitive with no ongoing service fees. They provide access to over 2,500 ASX listed securities, exchange traded funds, international listed shares and unlisted managed funds. Additionally they provide flexibility to meet a range of investor needs.
The share market presents many opportunities to invest. Some opportunities come with a deadline, such as IPOs, capital raisings, share purchase plans and rights issues.
For the investor willing to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible, the ability to react in a timely fashion will be constrained by their ease of access to funds.
When an investor’s only source of funds is the sale of existing investments, the decision “to buy” will result in a decision of “what to sell”. The “what to sell” decision can become challenging, particularly if it is considered under time pressure.
A margin lending facility, secured by an existing portfolio, can become the source of funds for a broad range of investment opportunities.
While a margin loan can increase gains in a rising market, it can also magnify losses when the market declines. Find out more about the risks and benefits of a NAB Margin Loan.
