Once a small-time shed builder from Albury, Easyshed has transformed itself into one of Australia’s fastest growing technology-enabled companies.
When the sheds you manufacture are selling as quickly as you can make them, it’s a clear sign you’re doing something right.
That’s exactly what Albury-based Easyshed has done; reinventing itself not just as a shed maker, but as a digital-first, direct-to-consumer (D2C) powerhouse.
From sheds to software-driven scale
Just a decade ago, the business was on shaky ground. “They basically were not that far off closing down the business,” recalls Chief Financial Officer Johan Andersson.
The turning point came with advice from a well-know Australian tech entrepreneur. Easyshed pivoted to what Andersson describes as a “technology-driven, direct-to-consumer business model.” It was a bold play; one that set the foundations for meteoric growth.
A digital experience that delivers
The company’s success is fuelled by a slick, data-rich digital platform backed by strong marketing and brand recognition across almost every advertising channel. Customers select their shed online and receive delivery in the form of a flat-pack kit from a trained driver from within the company’s freight division.
This combination of digital systems and human touch is central to Easyshed’s “Make Life Easy” ethos. It’s relentless focus on customer satisfaction is what sets it apart in the market, and continues to drive its rapid growth as customers refer their family and friends, and return for more.
Scaling like a tech company
Established in 1983, Easyshed has evolved into much more than a regional manufacturer. It’s strong team, now in the hundreds, is underpinned by a modern digital backbone that manages everything from marketing campaigns to production scheduling and delivery routing.
“It’s a very scalable business model,” Andersson explains. “The sales, marketing, production scheduling, delivery – everything can be managed centrally. We can replicate the model in new geography’s, plug-and-play, and continue to grow rapidly.”
Recognition as a fast-growth innovator
The transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed. Easyshed is now recognised as one of Australia’s fastest growing tech-enabled companies, proving that world-class innovation can be born in regional hubs.
Its unique ability to blend manufacturing expertise with e-commerce capability has set it apart in the market, reshaping what a shed company can be in the digital age.
Backed by strong partnerships
Underpinning Easyshed’s stunning transformation has been support from NAB’s Albury-based Senior Business Banking Manager, Brad Smith. Stepping in three years ago, he immediately rewrote the terms underpinning the company’s new 8,000-square-metre headquarters.
“When Brad looked into the funding, he came up with a much better deal,” Andersson says.
And the support hasn’t stopped there. As Easyshed has continued to grow, Smith has been on the lookout for additional solutions to help achieve their goals. “They've had meetings in a specialist sense with pretty much every corner of the bank – transactional, trade, FX, lending, and markets. Pretty much everything,” Smith says.
He’s been impressed by Easyshed’s clear communication and culture of success. “They’re right up there with anything I’ve ever seen,” he says. “Their growth trajectory is incredible and the business is very strong as well. They’re a real success story for the region.”
